Visualization of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address

Nancy Duarte examines the Gettysburg Address in her book resonate to show how the speech follows her sparkline.  Lincoln masterfully sails back and forth between what is and what could be, and the finale of his speech culminates in a call to action Duarte calls the “new bliss.”

Chiara Ojeda first introduced me to this amazing visualization of President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address when I attended her class discussion on the modes of persuasion.  Ojeda asked her students to analyze the speech while looking closely at pathos and ethos.  Adam Gault created the beautiful, haunting visualization with help from Stefanie Augustine and Carlo Vega.
